Dear Students & Families,
As a counseling department we want to ensure all students continue to have access to school counseling supports. If you have any questions or concerns for your child or you know your child was receiving support from a school counselor during school, please do not hesitate to reach out. Your child’s social and emotional well-being is so important during this time of uncertainty. We have set up some alternative forms of communication since you may not be able to reach us by calling the school directly.
We have set up a phone number that utilizes a program called Google Voice. This program allows us to create an alternative phone number that links to our personal cell phones. With this program you can place phone calls or send text messages to both of us, as long as you’ve typed in the correct phone number. You do not need to download an app or create an account to do so. When you place a phone call, it will ask you to state your first and last name, so we know who is calling on our end. Please try to be mindful of the times you call/text this number. When you receive a phone call from our Google Voice number it with show up as a “701” number coming from Casselton, ND. If you are needing to contact either of us outside of the hours listed below, kindly choose to send
an email to our school account. Please keep an eye out for social, emotional, career, and college readiness information being send out to your children. The elementary information will be sent out to students using the online platform your child’s teacher has selected. The middle school information will be sent out using a Yammer group through Office 365 which your students are already a part of. The high school information will be sent out through Office 365 accounts and on the counseling page of the school website.
If a student is wanting to request an individual session with their school counselor, we will be utilizing a program called Zoom. This program allows for a face-to-face webcam type interaction with the student and their counselor. Students/parents will need to set up an appointment by getting ahold of their counselor through email or their Google Voice phone number (calling or texting). An email will then be sent with a link for students to click and access their session. We will require parents to give a verbal, text, or email form of consent for your child to participate in an online counseling session. Please keep in mind that school counseling is not considered ongoing therapy and the sessions will reflect as they do in a school setting. Sessions typically include student check-in and a short-term strengths based activity or conversation. We will try our best to meet the needs of all of our students with the restrictions that come with running a virtual counseling program.
